Woven Tides: For May, the “Weave” prompt pulled me toward the high seas and the weathered life of an old Captain in 1788. This project, Woven Tides – The Captain’s Loss, explores the textures of maritime history and the stories left behind in the wreckage. ⚓📜
I used woven hessian strips to decorate and using inked calico to create a woven “Jacob’s Ladder” (Magic Wallet) interactive feature. The piece is filled with aged nautical charts, the mysterious “Legend of the Mermaid” 🧜♀️, and sea-stained ephemera. It’s a gritty, ink-heavy make that captures the salt and mystery of a life spent on the ocean. 🐚
